As the year draws to a close I would like to take the opportunity to wish all of our extended hostel family the very best for the festive season and a happy new year as you welcome in 2014. This year has been very successful here at the hostel. We have had some excellent achievements in the academic, sporting and cultural life of our students. It was pleasing to see so many of our senior students receiving prizes and collecting awards at the senior prize giving. We are especially proud of Emily McGimpsey who received the proxime accessit award this year for her academic endeavours. We are also very proud that so many hostel students we able to collect certificates of merit and academic awards. It reflects all of the hard work they have put in.
Opportunity and Success Values Reflected in our Senior Leavers
We were really lucky across the whole hostel this year with the excellent participation and achievement of those involved in sporting, cultural and service activities. This again was reflected in our 2013 Year 13 leavers who have all made a lasting impression on hostel life. I would like to thank Emily, Ashleigh, Lauren and Sam for their handwork and effort in making the best of the opportunities hostel life presented them and in serving well the needs of others at the hostel in their final year. They have truly represented the values that we hold dear around making the your own personal success stories of the opportunities hostel life presents for Dunstan students.
Hostel Developments 2013
We have made real progress on the ongoing upkeep of the hostel facilities. At the start of the year we replaced all of the dinning room chairs and next week we will be repainting the interior. We have completed the refurbishment of all of the junior block bedrooms and are half way through the upgrade of the junior bathrooms. We have begun the re-development of the Junior prep room into a modern vibrant learning environment and multi-use space for junior student free time. Along with this we have welcomed new iPads into the suit of computer devices, ultra-fast broadband internet, and new computer tables and chairs to our IT environment. This week we are replacing spouting, repainting the outside of the hostel, upgrading beds, and continuing the re-development of the hostel quad.
